League of Legends for Mac (beta version) is now available for download. League of Legends (LOL) is one of the most popular multiplayer strategy online team game from Riot Games. LOL is very similar to Defend of the ancients (Dota) which is also an insanely popular online strategy game. LOL for Mac beta version is now opening to public for download. Great thanks as of the never late comer to Mac as Windows LOL version has been released for several years.

For those who owns Mac, check out the download link here to get the latest LOL version, it sizes about 2.0GB. I’m still downloading the game while drafting this post. Look forward to try play it in Mac instead of Windows. According to Riot Games, the beta version of League Of Legends for Mac has been intended to do everything similar to Windows version. There should’t be any compatibility issue.

It is so sweet to run League of Legends on my iMac. It is perfect!!

If you have not yet order the new Apple iMac, be ware of this official statement from Apple which indicate the new Apple iMac 27 inch with 3TB Fusion drive will not support Boot Camp. It means you will not able to dual boot Windows 7 and Mac with boot camp officially. Off course, virtual machine is still possible with Windows 7 or 8 on Mac.

Apple officially acknowledged this issue in their support document:

Symptoms

When you start the Boot Camp Assistant on an iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) computer that has a 3TB hard drive, the following message appears.

“Boot Camp does not support installing Windows on this Mac.”

Resolution

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012) computers do not support installing Windows on the 3TB hard drive at this time.

This problem only happen to 27 inch iMac 2012 with 3TB fusion drive. 1TB version is a go. Apparently, the problem is caused by the capacity of the fusion drive. If this is the only problem. will you still consider to get an 3TB or 1TB iMac???

As of now, there was no firm news officially from Apple. However, many of us believe iMac and Mac mini could be one of the release products. Rumors reported that the new iMac will retain similar pricing strategy with 4 different models.

Due to the similar pricing strategy, we believe retina display will not come to the new iMac as MacBook Pro cost much higher in retina display version. The existing iMac come with 27inch and 21.5inch with different processor. Each these models has 2 different selection available. They costs USD $1199, $1499, $1699, and $1999.

We look forward to see the new iMac release soon in Apple media event on 23rd October 2012.

I have purchased my iMac for more than two month but to find that it’s hard to familiarize myself with a operating system totally new to me. While most of the time, I may need to utilize the software application in Windows for my daily activities as blogging is one of them. Due to this reason, I am using the Parallel Desktop application to run Windows 7 within my Mac system which totally drain out the memory and eventually result in laggy condition.

As Apple already prepare a hard disk drive called Boot Camp, it is meant to install Windows 7 on this drive. In order to dual boot with Windows 7 and Mac OS, you might need to have a Intel-base Mac machine. It is a default application in Mac OS called Boot Camp Assistant which can assist the installation of Windows 7 without any 3rd party application.

How to Install Windows 7 on Mac:

1. First of all, make sure you have the latest version of Boot Camp. Simply click on the Apple icon on the top left on your desktop followed by the “Software Update”.

2. After updated to the latest version, start up the Boot Camp Assistant. Go to “Application” –> “Utilities” –> “Boot Camp Assistant”

3. Next, to prepare a MS-DOS formatted external drive – thumb drive or external hard disk. You can easily complete the formatting by using ” Disk Utility”. Go to Application –> Utilities –> Disk Utility.

4. After prepared the MS-DOS formatted external drive, continue with Boot Camp Assistant. Check “Download the latest Windows support software from Apple” and “Remove Windows 7″ if you already have a 2nd drive: Boot Camp in your Mac. Download may take up to 30 minute depends on your download speed.

5. In the meanwhile, you can insert the Windows 7 installation disk into SuperDrive. As the download completed, you will be directed to restore Macintosh HD drive back to one partition. Next, you can decide on the disk space allocation for Windows 7 installation. I choose 100GB for my case.

6. Once the partitioning completed, the machine will restart automatically and proceed to the Windows 7 installation UI. For the latest part of installation, it would exactly the same as normal Windows 7 installation.

7. During the installation, several boot up will be experienced and it’s extremely normal. After the last reboot, you will finally booted Windows 7 on Mac.

8. Still remember with your downloaded Windows Support Software? Plug in the external drive where the support software stored, execute the setup exe file to install boot camp in Windows 7. This shall prepare the compatibility of Apple mouse and keyboard on Windows 7.

The original iMac when I first bought was 4GB (2 x 2GB) and it should be enough for normal usage if your iMac is used for normal web browsing, movie watching, music listening but not for heavy work like editing movie, or software programming compilation. I have upgraded my iMac RAM from 4GB to 12GB. It works seamlessly and I love the boosted performance of my iMac very much.

Why Should You Upgrade iMac RAM?

I have few reasons for myself to upgrade the iMac RAM. 4GB Ram is typical RAM size you can get when you purchase iMac from Apple Store.

1. 4GB is barely enough to run OSX Mountain Lion – I would say Mac OS X takes up a lot of RAM comparing to Windows OS.

2. To run heavy program – I run heavy program like Parallel 8 which can run Windows OS together inside OSX Mountain Lion. 2 operating system running at the same time, definitely you need more RAM to run for smooth performance.

3. RAM is cheap – I bought 2 x 4GB Strontium 1333MHz, it only costs SGD60. It is damn cheap. I recommend you to purchase the RAM when you feel it is cheap, the RAM will get price rise when the technologies are start outdating or some special reasons like nature disease cause manufacturing issue.

4. Smooth and better overall performance. – I do not like laggy and slow performance and this is also one of the main reason I upgrade the RAM of my iMac.

How To Upgrade iMac RAM

1. Firstly, understand your iMac model to know what is the Max RAM you can installed. Check here from Apple. [Please take note the RAM type and speed, DDR2 or DDR3, 1333MHz or 1600MHz]

2. Standardly, your iMac have total 4 slots and have used up 2 slots when you purchase iMac. You can choose to add additional 2 RAM or change all 4 slots of RAM. In my case, I added 2x4GB + original 2x2GB = 12GB.

3. Now, we start the hardware installation.

4. Move your iMac from desk.

5. The RAM slot is a the bottom of your iMac screen, see picture below.

6. Use a Philip screw driver to open 3 screws of the access door.

7. Untuck the tab in the memory compartment.

8. Insert 2 RAMs into the empty memory module slots. Take note the orientation of the RAMs when installation.
